Customers Reviews 2008-12-15 Economical, Accurate Enough, and Holds Me Accountable This model has its critics, so let me start by pointing out that this is on the low end of the market price-wise. If a person is looking for a super deluxe edition, then this is not the place to look.
So far as my non-pro-athlete eye can tell, this pedometer is actually quite accurate. It is certainly good enough for my purposes.
I have more than gotten my money's worth out of it in terms of ACCOUNTABILITY. Just clipping this on makes me aware of my level of activity, causing my pride to kick in and nudging me toward at least a minimum standard of fitness. Many times throughout the day I look down and decide to push for another tenth of a mile, or five hundred more steps, etc.
This item makes fitness more measurable and fun, and it has even turned into a conversation piece.
If I reach the point of out-growing this model, or if I should lose it, I have already gotten my money's worth.
Thank you Valerie Bertinelli for writing about the 10,000 steps concept in your bio and for indirectly nudging me out of my favorite chair. | 2008-12-10 Easy to use; easy to lose I bought this to replace a more complicated pedometer that wasn't working properly. The Sportline is very simple to operate, and I find that I am using it much more than I did the more complicated one. There's a lot to be said for simplicity.
There are only three buttons on the pedometer, and it does take a second or two of pressing on the reset button to reset it, so the chances of accidentally resetting it are lower than some models with big reset buttons. However, it's not impossible. On my "biggest day yet" I toured Gettysburg battlefield and I know I walked at least 5 miles. I was anticipating seeing 11,000+ steps on my pedometer when I returned to the visitor center. What I saw was 1,148 -- I had managed to reset the thing while walking (no doubt my camera had pressed against it)!
Other reviewers note that the clip doesn't hold very well. I wasn't having too much trouble with it until I started wearing a coat, and I think the movement of the coat knocked it off my belt a couple of times. The clip forms an "O" shape on the part that clips to your waistband, so I'm going to try running a strap through it to anchor it to my belt loops. Additionally, I might try using it in my pocket.
I haven't measured the pedometer for accuracy, but the main reason I bought it is to remind myself to get up and move more. So it's less important to me if I actually walked 35 or 39 steps, and more important that I keep trying to push the number of steps up. I've had two lazy weeks around Thanksgiving, but the pedometer is serving one important function -- it's a constant reminder of how much (or how little) activity I've had during the day.
For the price I paid for this, it is worthwhile simply because I am using it almost every day. This is a good model for a beginning walker because it offers basic functions and is easy to use. | 2008-11-25 Step & Distance Pedometer Works fine, but is hard to keep hooked on waistband. Have lost mine several times. It was easy to set up. | 2008-10-15 Accurate and takes up minimal space I read some of the previous reviews and do agree with some. Yes it does easily fall off, but I found it was more likely to do so when I was wearing jeans with a belt. It has never fallen off while wearing my workout clothes. I am however very aware of it though throughout the day because I don't want it falling off. I find it to be VERY accurate. My walking partner has a completely different (and very cumbersome) pedometer that was within a few steps of mine after we walked together one morning. The exposed faceplate has never been an issue. It's never reset itself even with curious kids checking my steps throughout the day. The ONLY reason I am on my second pedometer is because my dog ate the first one! REALLY, I'm not making that one up! I went out and replaced it that day. | 2007-12-03 Good Design It is a great idea to create such a handy gadget reminding you to have enough physical activities everyday. | |
