Ought to be included with the camera.
I recommend this device for anyone interested in the capability it offers. It's simple and easy to use. I'm not sure why Nikon doesn't just include it with the camera.

nikon ml-l3 wireless remote
**used with a Nikon D60

PROS:
convenient, good distance (~15 ft while still pointing at the camera), quick reaction, let's you take pictures without moving/touching your camera therefore reducing shake/blur.

so far i've taken easily over 500 pictures back to back/continuously and the batteries have yet to show any wear.

the case it comes with has a slot so you can easily attach it onto a camera strap.

the price is cheaper than the shutter release that has to be wired to the camera.

CONS:
has to be pointing directly at the camera to work (you can't just be standing near it, you HAVE to point)

the batteries are not a common standard size so if/when they die it will be harder to replace.

because of it's size it is easy to lose, it would be nice if either it came with a strap or had a hole to add your own strap or attach it to something while you're using it and it's not stored in it's case.

(these are more camera specific features, than the remote's fault) you have to go into the settings to tell the camera to use the remote which is fine, but you have to go to another area to make sure the remote connection doesn't turn off automatically after 10 sec of inactivity which can be inconvenient if you're setting up a scene, then changing and going back...etc.

Tiny Remote
This product works great on my D40. It is really convenient for repeated long exposures. There is only one button, and it works great. Size wise this remote seems like it could be easily lost. It is super small. I lost it in my jacket once, couldn't really find it until I took my gloves off. Not a bad thing, just needs to be said.

I love having this remote!

Great Item to have
This works great with my D40. East to use. Just make sure you have the manual for the camera because it tells you how to use the remote. This also works great in Bulb mode. Click once to open the shutter and again to close it.

Nikon Cameras History

Nikon Corporation is one of the major companies of the Mitsubishi Group, a multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and specializing in optics and imaging.

Nippon Kogaku K.K., or Japanese Optical Society (afterwards became known as Nikon Corporation) was formed at July 25, 1917 as a result of merging of three firms: Tokyo Keiki Seisaku-sho's optical division, Iwaki Glass Seisaku-sho и Fujii Lens Seizo-sho. The new company was aimed at manufacturing high-quality optics for Imperial Japanese Navy. And up to 1945 it actually was their main goal that determined the company’s philosophy and traditions. The first president of Nippon Kogaku was Yoshihira Wada.

Apart from military equipment the company produced microscopes, telescopes and other measuring instruments for industry and science. From 1932 they started serial production of Nikkor lenses for photo cameras. It’s an interesting fact that all Canon cameras, launched between 1937 and 1947 were equipped with lenses produced by Nikon!

After the WW II Nippon Kogaku K.K. manufactured its own camera –a rangefinder Nikon 1 – and stopped manufacturing lenses for Canon. The new camera appeared already Nikon-branded.
