Since there is only one voting scale, how can one vote on a picture which is off subject such as entering a none B&W photo into a B&W photo contest? For another example, the lastest contest is about Perspective in the context of photography composition I assume but some entries do not have any special attribute of perspective. Rather, some might have special meaning for perspective in life. But that is off subject.
In my opinion, subject is the most important aspect of a contest. A picture should be telling something on the given subject. Therefore a technically superior but off subject picture should be considered weak on content thus lower over all score. To guide members entering a contest, I guess there should be clear definition of what the subject is. If the subject is about a technical term in photography, a short explanation of the term may be needed so that members clearly understand what to enter. Just my 2 cents. |

Can't agree more: it would be nice if the person who starts a photo contest adds a few lines of clear definition - we have a field for that purpose: DETAILS. _________________ New here? Welcome to our community! |
