| Did anyone try this service? They are commission free, but they charge you a monthly fee. There is much buzz online about this service. Would be great if anyone shared his experience. |

| I did not try the service but the fact that they charge monthly subsciption fee does not attract me. You do not know how many buyers purchase images there - the service is new and you can just waste your money. |

[Full disclosure: I do work for Kumaru.com and answer on behalf of the service]
We are a fairly new service indeed, just 2 weeks old!
As the former post said, you have to pay a yearly registration to use the service. However, you have to consider that no one gives you more than we do. Each plan comes with a domain name of your choice, webdesigns to choose from, 15 email accounts, free bandwidth, secure credit card processing and of course, our AJAX interface. Besides, for just $199/year you can display 2500 images (since August, 11th 2006) so it is only 8 cents per photo per year... it's a bargain! For once, even if you did all the programming part by yourself, you would not save any money.
Otherwise, what alternative do you have? You can always give all your rights to 'microstock services' that will take a 80% commission on each sale... and the sale price usually is $1 so you'll have to cumulate the 20 cents while they get rich thanks to your efforts.
We understand your fear of not being able to sale anything and "just waste your money" but knowing that a license sells for $100-$1000 (you can set your price, and your license terms, too), we think it is worth to build up your credibility and get all the profit.
Kumaru.com's aim is to allow photographers to make a living from their passion, not just to make a few bucks in the short term. We do NOT take any commission. We started Kumaru.com because other photo services did not, and do not, respect the photographers' rights and lock them in. We are very open on that aspect: you have your website, your business and you keep your identity. Keeping your identity is not trivial: once people know your name, they keep coming back to see YOUR work, not a company's products. Your online identity a key element of your success and only Kumaru.com respects it.
If you want to ask any question, post it on this forum or write us at: info@kumaru.com and ask for Eric. |
