A while back Chief and I used to do this quite a bit to each others photos. If you have no objection I may choose other of your photos to play with. I know some photographers cringe at the idea of “photoshoping” a shot but sometimes you can turn an ordinary picture into a prize. I am but a rank armature at this so there may be a hundred better ways to interpret this shot. But here is mine.
The original blocks my eye at the forground range because of the shadows. I lightened this up in the second shot and just burned the colors a lil brighter in the background. If you put these two images side by side and flip between them you will see how much more your eye is drawn into the slightly corrected version. Just seems to even out the tonal range.

I love the color and it's so much brighter in the shadows. Amazing difference. Please feel free to play with any of my photos you'd like.
I really appreciate it. It's a good learning tool for me. I don't have photoshop right now, have some disc drive issues to work out first, I
only have "Picture It" (not good) that came with windows, so I really enjoy seeing what can be done. Be sure and explain what you do.
Thanks,
Lisa

JLW, Great job! I think such Photoshop correction is just required! If a photographer knows that something should be corrected for achieving the best effect, he must do it!
Lisa Deaton, beautiful shot! |

If you would rather I didn’t use any more of your photos for such comparisons just let me know and I will immediately stop.
Photos were taken down.

Now that I look closely at the repost edit I should have punched a little yellow back in around the eye.

Lisa, I would like to visit this beautiful place sometimes! Tell me, do you remember if the colors were so bright as in my variant, 'cause I think I've overdone them a bit :)
First I switched to Lab Profile to use all the possibilities of Curves. I used Curves - channels a (green & red colors) and b (yellow & blue colors) and also selected the snow and lightened it with Curves - Lightness. And enhanced the sky a bit with the same way.
By the way, I've read that it's required to use horizontal format for landscapes but your picture is great! |

Good job Lynxy. I can see a subtle difference. Although I prefer the edit that JLW did. It was much lighter in the shadows. And the color was richer.
By the way, in my gallery you can see a horizontal version of the Grand Canyon. I don't believe in requirements, limits, or rules when it comes to
photography or any art. Thanks for improving my photo. I'm sure you
can find others in my gallery to toy with. Have fun.

Lisa Deaton, I've also just visited your gallery and had fun.
Lynxy, your version is a bit unreal, shadows and lights are too blue. Be attentive with Curves. But only working with them you can obtain some proficiency, so keep trying! |
