As a "cool shot" repeat offender I would like to say, that I get it, most folks (myself included) would rather have constructive comments. But understand that I'm a novice here and really don't feel qualified to suggest improvement. I see alot of photos out there that I really enjoy, and it's my way of saying Thanks for sharing. So for now "cool shot" is all I got. I just can't help myself.

I would just like to say that if this site does switch to a judge panel then i would like to nominate Chieflong for it. I value his oppinions and know that he does have extnsive experince in photography and in judging photography contests. I think that if this happens we should have a nomination forum and then EVERYONE on the site can vote for three of the nominies.

I would also like to say that i am NOT in favor of this voting system. I do think that everyone that is ACTIVELY participating in contests should be able to vote!.. But It must be an active account, you should have to of entered a certin amount of contests to be eligible for voting..

As far as charging for the site, i think thats a bad idea. I know i don't want to and won't pay to enter contests. I am not here for a prize, im here for feedback.. And honestly i dont care what kind of feedback, It can be the "cool shot" comment or even the comment that tells me everything wrong with my photo and how i should improve it. A comment which ever it is is still a comment and some kind of feedback.. Even the "cool shot" comment from the less experinced photographer is feedback!!! They liked it enough to take the time to stop and say something.. And something is better then nothing.. Nothing lets you start wondering if they liked it at all..

Feel free to post, share your opinions, etc...I just think that if there's a way to work around accidentally hurting somebody's feelings, then that way is (probably) the better way, although we're probably going to get at least a little bit of drama no matter what.

I think that a Judging Panel running side-by-side with a popular vote is an excellent idea.

If we make changes, I'm sure that somebody is going to go through a lot of headaches to get us there on the website setup end. We need to all think it through and agree to something if we want changes, and hopefully the administrators will be willing.

It isn't all about suggesting improvement.... When you take the time to vote for a shot and leave a comment you must have something that compels you. Color, composition, subject, originality etc.... Knowing what the elements were in a particular photo that you liked is as important as any suggestions you may have about improving it.

Thank you Heather Lynne for your vote of confidence. I have said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not a professional photographer. Yes I have been published, yes I have won major competitions, yes I have sold some of my work, but I still work full time as the Fire Chief in our town.

Now that I got that off my chest I would love to help out with this site. I haven't posted anything in some time now because of some of the accusations that were going on. I have been checking in on a regular basis to see how everyone has been doing in the contest and would like to say that many of you have shown great improvement in your work.

Should the folks here decide to go to a "Judging Panel" then I would be willing to help out, but truly and honestly I feel the way things are going right now is good. Nothing helps one improve one's skill than constructive criticism!!

Folks, when I first joined this site I did it to have fun!! Now I'm hoping for everyone else here has fun like I did. Enjoy this free site, have fun challenging yourself and others with little competitions, and most of all use it as a learning tool.

Guy (chieflong)

I am just wondering why its is a picture with only 7 votes can get first place over 2 pics that have 10 and 13 votes... Seems to me the more popular pics were the ones with more votes .... Can someone please explain this to me!!!

This is a rhetorical question isn’t it?

The way this voting system is set up you could have a single vote of 5-10 win over a photo with 25 votes with any combination of lower scores. It’s all about the averages.

I think lately I've been noticing poor judgement of a lot of the pictures.
It would probably be a good idea to take action with the judges suggestion...

I'm new here and this is my first post, so forgive me for anything I might say in advance. I'm kind of amazed that people would actually logon under different IDs just to win a contest. These contests seem to me to be rather specific ad there aren't tons of photos to fight off, so any entry has a real chance at winning. Are there REALLY photographers out there who find the victory more important than either the thrill of competition or the comment and critique that could come with a contest entry?

I mean, what is the motivation? I'm amazed. And I almost feel very sorry for such people. Its like... maybe they should just be allowed to win and the rest of us can learn something from the comments we receive.

Are there prizes? I haven't seen any, but like I said I'm new. What on EARTH are they cheating to win? Bragging rights? All the good photographers will know what happened. And the cheater will know he cheated.

I guess this is less helpful than it is just an opinion, but like I said, this is all new to me. I like the site a lot. I love the contest structure as it is right now. And I have my OWN site that features photographers (no contests), so its my hopes to continue coming here and participating and hopefully learning from the rest of you so that I might improve my work.

Maybe I'm naive, but shouldn't we all be able to be happy with one ID and likewise, with either winning or losing based on the merits of our photos? These guys who need to win, need to grow up first. No?
