Here's a shot I took a couple of days back. I'd like some feedback. This has no post production, not even cropped.

I do have my camera set to push the saturation and the white balance just a bit.

Anyhow... Have at it..

Beautiful, warm light that makes the small branches really glow. Nice work.

When I look at it, my mind wants to zoom in some on one area of the tree and also see a bit more details in the bark of the tree. The latter might only be my monitor, though.

Thanks for the input.

I have tried everything in my bag of tricks trying to extract some detail from the tree trunks but there isn't anything much to get.

If I had been working the shot I could have taken two or three at different exposures and then HDR'd them together.

Next time I get that light going on I'll set up on my tripod and take a lil more time to get the right comopsition and exposure.

Looks good Jim - as if the tree was layered in ice (does that happen down your way?)

Here's a little mod I did for your thoughts. I added a zoom blur effect to creat sun rays coming from behind the tree.

Interested to know how you like it.

Very nice... It really helps focus your attention, something the shot otherwise lacks. I tried croping the thing several different ways but I think I like this the best.

As for the ice... Yup... that shot was taken about about 4 days back. Last night we got 5" of snow after the temps hitting in the 60s the day before. Weather is a bit nuts around here right now.

JLW

BTW .. nice to have you back.

I love the original picture untouched, but the modification chief did does help bring your eyes into the picture, as you stated JLW. The only thing I would change on Chief's modification is that the zoom blur be a little bit less intense, as in it not take up so much of the picture. I am familiar with the zoom blur technique, but not familiar enough to know exactly how it works so I am not sure if it is possible to use it along the border of the picture and still get the same eye focusing effect. I may play with it here in a little bit just so I can learn more about how it works, but right now I have to go to my morning job which I am running a bit behind on already. (Dang I am always working these days wish I had a bit more time to spend on photography, but its okay because thats what I am working towards and it will come sooner or later.)

Either way the original is good with out effects and just the simple (solid) border around it may be enough to help bring the eyes into it because the picture is good and can stand on its own.

I played with it for a little while and I, personally, think that if you had to try to enhance the picture in some way then the border is enough. However, like I said before this is a really good picture that stands on its own so adding effects to it really isn't necessary as it is novelty. Good job JLW.

Very nice, I prefer the original though, it would look great printed, in a black frame on a wall.
