I was just wondering about where to put the watermarks, myself. In all honesty I don't have any pictures yet worth putting the watermark on. (Though today I figured out how to use the b/w option on my camera and got some pretty good ones, I think/hope. With a couple of these I may use a watermark.)

I was thinking about the cropping too, and how most people do, as you stated Harry, put their mark close to the edge where it can be cropped. I've noticed that stock photography websites put a transparent sort of mark across the actual image, would this be a bit too much? I was thinking it probably would be especially since it may hinder people's ability to correctly judge pictures in contest. What do you all think? Just curious to know that way I can do it the right way from the start.

Thanks

I dunno what other guys think but adding a watermark to a photo kind of destroys it for me. It's like wearing new pants with the price tag still attached. The images I post on this site are heavily scaled down and compressed versions of the original, so they cannot be used for print or anything requiring only modest quality.

Austrian (and I believe international) copyright law doesn't require your putting your name and the date on the photo. The artist automatically retains the copyright to the original work. If someone else claims one of my photos as their work I can easily proof that it is mine since I have the original (large size) version.
