it is not a good idea to have contestant's name on the photograph. It would inadvertantly influence voting. In all sites photographs with the photographers name on them are disqualified. To be fair to all contestants, writing the name on the photograph should be discouraged.

We need your input.

Thanks

i agree...........BUT...........if you're talking about the photoshop contest, the idea is to show what one can do with photoshop.
adding a watermark is part of using/mastering photoshop,so in this case i think Heather Lynne's photo's are legitimate.

P.S.
I also entered the photoshop contest and i do not feel "threatened" just because someone has their name on their photograph.
I would normally agree with you (check the communications on the votingsystem)but again, this contest was all about using photoshop or similar software and adding a watermark is part of that.

P.P.S.
now that i have checked the 'Woman contest"i have to totally agree with you.that watermark has no busines there.'
We all want to and need to protect our work, but we can do that by adding a watermark that doesn't show our identity in a contest.

I, for one, don't mind seeing a person's name on the photo. I don't judge the photo based on who took it but rather on its total quality. I will be putting my name on all my photos as I have had one person claim my work as theres! Hard to defend when the person lives in a far away country!

I'm not here to see how many contests I can win but merely to expose myself to the world and have my work critiqued by the fine folks on this site. I know that some of my work got pushed back in the ranking because of who I am - big deal, at least I got the attention of some folks! If you don't like the fact that the person is trying to protect one's work than vote accordingly.

Hopefully we can all learn a little something from others work - name or no name.

Guy

I also judge the photo on its merit only, not the photographer; however, it is better not to disclose the identity. One can easily explain how editing was done with photoshop without having her or his name on the photo.

as i said, i'm totally for protecting ones work, but the watermark doesn't have to be the name one uses here.

I understand what you are saying Harry but a legal copyright in Canada must include one's name and year of production, hence J.J. Guy Longtin © 2008 makes my work officially copyrighted.

i appologize, i didn't know about canadas copyrightlaws and i didn't mean to offend anybody.it seems thought that this whole dicussion doesn't matter anymore , since the authors name is displayed in the new contests anyways.
happy shooting

p.s.
a bit of advise ,if you don't mind Guy.
your watermark so close to the edge of your work could easily be cropped out.i think i will start adding watermarks to my work too,but i will add them where cropping would destroy the whole picture.
