I've only been around here for a few weeks and I'm already getting tired of seeing the same pictures (or same subject different shot) put up in the contests time and time again. There are currently 4 or 5 shots that have been top 3 finishers in other contests some far back as last year that are submitted in current contests... I guess if you finally get a good one might as well stick with it ea.

I have to agree with you. I don't mind seeing the same picture entered twice but any more than that, IMHO the image is no longer fresh and new to me. Then things begin to get a little boring. I also can understand why it is done because of the limited storage allowed for your images .

i agree with both of you. that has been my complaint for quite awhile. i have never submitted the same photo twice. even tho my pictures aren't that good, they are at least different shots. i dont agree about the subject tho. some people are better at taking shots of one subject so they stick with that. as long as it is a differnt shot, it doesn't matter to me. i am lousy at flower and close up shots so i dont take them. i also dont think they should dig through their old pictures and put them on. it is more fun to go out and take new ones. more of a challenge. just mho.

In MHO once a photo has finished in the top three in any contest it should not be eligible for any further contests...

Nana17... Let me explain my position on this a lil further.

There are four flower shots by the same person. You know which ones I'm talking about. Three of the four have already placed in previous contests and the 4th is entered in a current contest. Now.. this for me wouldn't be a big deal but this particular photographer is both a moderator on this site and by all measures highly skilled if not professional. Why they feel the need to compete in the open contests against what are essentially novice photographers is beyond my understanding. When I look at the participation in the advanced level contests there is very little. What's up with that!

I think anyone who has placed pictures in the top 3 more than 10 times should be restricted to participation in the advanced contests. Give the rest of the group an opportunity develop their tallents. I would of course welcome their sincere opinion and evaluations of the open group photos.

Just my opinion

i do understand your position. i never understood why members could enter in both open and advanced contests myself. advanced to me means those with more experience.it even states that in the rules. i think it does stop people from entering the open contest. they feel they cant compete.

I am very new to this site, yet would also agree with the general feeling of this post. Once a photo has placed top three, it shouldn't be allowed. There should also be some sort of rule for double posting a picture in general, like maybe only 2-3 times.

As for advanced pictures in the open contests, I know the first two contests I entered I was really excited to see how I would place, but some of the pictures in there could have been out of a magazine. I almost stopped coming to the site because I felt I had no chance, but I stuck with it.

Just wanted to give the opinion of a newby.

I think you hit it on the head MZ... I think a lot of newcommers have that experience but just quietly go away... Most don't want to get involved in the politics. I have been reading the past forum posts and the same complaints have been repeated time and time again. It is much too easy to cheat your way into a placement in the top three of a contest. One of my shots just went from a 2nd to 12th in a current voting phase. The number of additional votes cast went from 209 to 210... One vote... now you don't suppose someone would go in and give my photo a really bad score just to advance their own.

BTW Dan... the last sentence in my previous post is not directed at you... just another interesting observation about the voting patterns around here.

Also.. If you have some photos that you would like evaluated there are a few people posting in the Shared Photos forum. You may stand a chance of getting some useable input there. In fact they'll likely snag your photo ... doctor it up for you and then repost it....

You know who you are!!! : )

As I have mentioned here we will try to disallow entering the same images over and over again. As soon as we get 'an alert' we will remove the image from the contest and refer the member to the rules sending him a pm. Hopefully, it will improve the contests in some way.

And thank you all for this sort of posts. I keep record of all ideas and hints that members share in the forum (esp. I pay attention to those that a number of members supports).
