It is OK to go with a digital camera on some trip or when you visit places at the weekends. But what about daily routine. Do you happen to use the digital camera from Monday thru Friday? How do you find inspiration for new shots?
I tried to make a few shots of my apartment, but then I ran out of the ideas, so I do not use the digital camera on a daily basis. Anyone does? |

| I am in the same situation, but our life is monotonous in many ways, so we should enjoy our shot sessions by making them less regular. In this case it will be some kind of pleasant hobby activity. |

| I turn to my digicam once a month, or so. I would like to have it on me every day, but it is not so very tiny to fit to my pocket comfortably. Sometimes i use my phone camera when there is no real camera on me, but it is not a way-out, the shots are awful. |

| I take my camera with me at the weekends and it does not matter if i go to a supermarket or out of the city. Weekends are the only time i can paractice my photo skills. |

I almost always have a digi with me. Certainly my iPhone is in my pocket at almost all times, and I've taken some nice shots with it. (check my gallery).
For the daily grind there's almost always my Olympus 510 in the car. It's small enough that I even take it with me in to the mall sometimes its fast enough to get some impromptu shots and high enough quality to do some artsy stuff with.
Now that I have my 40D, it's in the car with me most of the time also, ready to be taken out on a few moments notice. It's so fast and versatile I've just pointed it out the window and snapped pics in auto-drive hoping one of them will be framed well and non-blurred.
Each has limitations and advantages (portability, loudness, speed) but I'm of the opinion that the camera doesn't matter anywhere near as much as the person behind it.
If you don't have a camera, it doesn't matter how much inspiration you have and having the camera leads to inspiration and lots of pictures. Lots of pictures means you learn what works and what doesn't. If nothing else, you can't learn to use the camera with it sitting at home! |

I have the same problem most of us seem to have: my daily routine isn't very conducive to creative photography. Of course I have a tiny digicam on my phone but that's like saying a swimming trunk can double as a tuxedo.
I find that I have to be in a creative mood to shoot good pictures. For this to happen I need time and space. If I feel pressured it doesn't work for me. Therefore taking photos is like a treat for me, a very special time.
Of course I get inspiration from my daily routine. Things I see, memories that get triggered, and so on. Then, when I have or make time, I can be more creative and focused. I'd like to think that shows on my photographs....

My camera doesn't get used everyday, but it is picked up quite often. But, I have to admit, it's mostly used for snapshots. Most of my family lives several states away, so there are a lot of pictures taken of the kids' artwork and silly stuff just to email to my sisters. I have been trying to get in the habit of doing some "serious" photos at least once a week. And, I've also been trying to remember to take the camera with me more often.
I really like that "take a photo a day" maybe I'll try that this year. |
