:? Ok Bear with me here.. I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out.
As I'm reading this forum (posts from a couple months back) I'm wondering if any of the issues regarding the voting and rating process have been resolved or has everyone just come to accept it as is and not take the whole thing too serious.
If what I'm reading is the actual format being used I can see why many people wouldn't bother to post. It would only require a half dozen friends to completely skew a contest result. I could demonstrate if you like.
That being said... Has anyone considered using a judging panel of 3 or more to determine the outcome of a contest. Those people could be rotated so as not to be able to develop any favoritism. The judging panel would of course be required to give feedback about each photo entered. The voting and rating system could continue to be used as is for informational purposes. And if there is a descrepency between the two at least then there would be some explination that could be derived from the judges comments.
Don't get me wrong here... I enjoy the users comments about my work... However, comments like... "I like that" and "great shot" etc. will not help me or anyone else learn better photographic technique.
Anyhow... Food for thought
Jim
P.S. I'd like to volunter for the judging panel. |

Jim,
We hope to resolve some minor voting issues within a couple of weeks:
- to disable the option when one can vote for his own photos
- to add 'abuse alert' button next to each image in the contest to improve comments quality.
The idea of the judging panel sounds great. Two voting systems - by users and by the the judging panel - should produce more precise results.
But it would be nice to hear other members' opinion here. _________________ New here? Welcome to our community! |

| i like the changes you are planning eugene. think they will work. i also think pictures shouldn't be entered over and over. especially if they have finished in the top 3 places. it is more fun to see and vote on new shots. |

We can certainly mention that in the rules, but it is hard to control.
Probably 'abuse alert' feature could help with that too. _________________ New here? Welcome to our community! |

| yes, i can see where it probably would be hard to control.i do think if it is in the rules people would follow them. the abuse alert would work also, i think. |

How would the abuse alert work?

the abuse alert - just a button next to each image.
if the members think that someone makes rude comments or something of that sort - they click the button and send an e-mail with explanation - that would notify the moderators of the problem.
Those members who will be repeatedly caught with that abuse are likely to be forever banned from the site. _________________ New here? Welcome to our community! |
