Panasonic and Sony are two big players on video camera market. The companies start a joint promotion of the new recording format:

AVCHD - is a brand new high definition digital video camera recorder format.

Have a look at the list of companies supporting the new format currently:

* Adobe Systems Incorporated
* CANON INC.
* CyberLink Corporation
* InterVideo, Inc.
* Nero AG
* PIONEER CORPORATION
* SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO.,LTD.
* SHARP CORPORATION
* Sonic Solutions
* Ulead Systems, Inc.

I guess the new format have a good chance to become mainstream.

It would be great for all these formats be compatible - it will make our life easier.

And the companies - they can develop new formats on a weekly basis. But do not break the law of compatibility!

And the second thing is that formats are becoming more and more advanced... they allow many features and options... I suppose everybody find use in new formats!
