I finally got a photoshop program! It's just elements 6, but I'm still excited about it. Here's one of my first attempts trying to figure this program out.

Pretty good for a first attempt.

If your prgm has a refine edges feature (smooth feather, expand, shrink etc) you can use it to tighten up the mask a lil and clean up the edges.

BTW...You'll never be the same now that you've started using photoshop. What's next PS3?

Nice first try Trish! As mentioned your edges are a little harsh. Under "Select" go to "modify" and soften the edge (approx. 5 pixels) for photo this size.

I took the liberty to do a little magic with your photo (hope you don't mind). I select your son? and soften the edges by 25 pixels then added a zoom blur to give it a little motion.

Elements 6 is a great program to start with. Have fun,

Guy

Yes, this is my oldest son. You can tell by the slightly bored "Are we done yet?" expression on his face. lol
Thank you so much for the input, and step by step what you did!
This program is really making me realize just how computer illiterate I am. I messed around with it for about 2 1/2 hours last night, just trying to take the sky from one picture, and use it as background for my middle son in another picture and never could get it to look right.
