Not trying to create any kind of a stir here, just looking for a clarification on what's ok to submit, technology wise, and what's not.
Currently the Architecture contest is in the voting stage; placed #2 right now is an interesting picture, but it's a vigorously photo-shopped picture. I thought this was a photography site - implying touch ups, tweaks, that sort of thing, but not creating a fictional piece of "architecture". It's pretty easy to see.
I could just give it 1's on technique and subject, that'd drop it so real photographs are featured in the top spots as they shoud be, but I'm not resorting to that if this site has no guideline to prevent manufactured pictures.
Any clarification is appreciated. And as I said, I'm not stirring the pot, but if this is acceptable I'll just refrain from voting on contests that have such pictures entered.
Thanks,
Denise |

Hey Denise
JLW here… I know you have at least looked at the form “communications channel/ rating contest images” cause you posted a great fix for Chief’s puppy pic there.
Not being one reluctant to stir the pot I’ll make you this bet… You vote the windows photo with low scores and knock it out of the standings… I’ll bet you a roll of film that it winds up back in 2 or 3rd place by the end of the week.
I would love to see some mechanism for the people sponsoring a contest to reject photos that are inappropriate for a particular competition. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be possible.
So… send comments to the folks whose photos you like and for whom you have some constructive comments. Vote for the photos you like! But don’t take the contests too serious they are highly “sub-objective”.

JLW,
Thanks. I guess I'll go with the not vote for it in any way approach.
Personally I don't think making a red background and then cutting and pasting a bunch of windows in constitutes a photo of architecture - especially if the "photo" is submitted by the person that started the contest. (Didn't take any great amount of investigating to figure it out.)
Oh well, I do understand this is for fun, not for up and coming stars to be discovered. And I do enjoy this site, just wondered if anybody had established a protocol.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! |

Well Denise - for what it's worth, vote for it as you feel appropriate. I'm of the belief that one should vote how they feel about the photo. If you think it doesn't fit then go low on the theme and poorly photo shopped (like I do) then give it a low rating in the technical aspect. The whole idea here is to get the folks voting and when giving an extremely poor rating one should give a reason why in the comment section.
As for the use of photoshop (PS) their is no protocal set here on tis site. And I'm of the opinion that one should be allowed to use what ever tools is at your disposal. I've made this argument before with regard to photoshop and compare it to the times I spent in the darkroom dodging and burning, sandwiching negatives, cutting out and pasting, all of which were some for of post editing. Having said that, if one is going to use some form of PS then they better do a good job of it!
You see Jim isn't the only one who can rant about something Ha Ha Ha
Hope this helps you out a little Denise and enjoy yourself here as it is for fun!
