An online photo print service has approached shotaddict with an offer to integrate 'Buy prints' module into our photo galleries. It means that any website visitor can purchase a print of an image he likes on this website.

The rights to all images posted on this website belong to their photographers. Here at shotaddict we can offer a sort of service to accept the payments (according to our agreement with the photo print service) and then display in the profile of every photographer the amount for the sold images.

We do not expect too many sales (not now at least), but as an extra feature it might be useful to our photo website members.

So, the questions are:

- do you find it interesting?
- how would you like to split the revenue for the sale of images between shotaddict and you? 30/ 70%, 40/ 60%, 50/ 50%, 10/ 90%
- do you have any ideas how to properly arrange this service to make happy all sides?

Well I know you can easily sell lots of my images, only because they are so unique and have been selling as post cards, note-cards and fine art framed & matted prints for over 20 years.

As far as profit sharing is concerned.. I would think a poll is in order for that decision or collection of data.

But the overall idea is quite interesting indeed. I for one would subscrie to that. But in all sincerity, It has not been my experience to sell very many over the internet but in person. That is how 90% of my sales are obtained. by tourists in Alaska, in person!

Do you really want to make good money in photography, with the sale of your images? I got time tested methods that work, but you need a littlel bit of money to get this started

For instance. you do not sell photographs for $100 dollars a print. Not very many people lwill spend that amount of money for a large photograph to place in their home or office or where ever.

But.. If you have litho prints made of that great image you want to sell and offer it for 20 - 35 dollars, you WILL SELL A LOT..

You can easily turn 2,000 (for color seperations and printing) and have 2000 prints made. which sell for 20 $ each = 40,000 dollars.

now multiply that times 50 images and you can make some very serious money !! post-cards & note-cards are big sellers also, but to print you own is not very cost effective.. for that same $2,000 for litho's

you can have 50,000 postcards printed up & @ 2 bucks each !! that is a hefty profit.. OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME.

Creating the image is just half the battle. now how can you sell it or market it is quite another FIELD or "talent" that takes much practice. I say practice because your going to hear the word no thanks quite often in the beginning.. now you have to use your imagination to convince people to purchase that image you created.

At any good bookstore.. Photographers Market Book this is a must have item that you purchase every year.

Learn how to submit according to agencies guidelines via delivery memo's.

You have at your disposal all the addresses phone numbers e-mail and every item necessary to sell your images to thousands of companies that are looking for specific types of photographs. Companies such as Adobe, Corel, Hallmark, and hundreds of thousands of others also..

you cannot just rely on one source to sell or market your images !!!

but you have to START SOMEPLACE.. .. .. first !!!

to Majik_Imaje:

your idea to run a poll is really excellent. and thank you for sharing your tips on making money with photography.

i think we will run the poll somewhere at the start of September to see if there is any interest and sense to introduce this new feature - it is primarily a matter of trust because all the sales will go through our company bank account and not all members will like this idea - they will not control the entire process.
