At this time there are no prizes.
To introduce some, we have to make the photo contests fee based to collect funds for those prizes.
If you have some ideas about how to deal with the issue of contest winner prizes - we would be happy to consider any options. _________________ New here? Welcome to our community! |

I am new to this site and was very excited to join however the point system for contests is awful. It is ridiculous that the cummulative total is what wins a contest. So someone with 100 votes at 1 point vote will win whereas someone with 8 votes at 10 points will loose. That is so wrong and very deceiving. At the very least votes should be averaged. Another idea I have seen on another site is having numerous items to vote on. For example, creativity, composition, relates to topic, interest, overall, etc.
Until the voting system gets changed I think I will be finding another site with a better voting system which is too bad b/c this site looks like it has some great potential. |

To firebell:
Yes, I know that our voting system is too simple. The members discuss this issue for some time. I have notes of the ideas that the members posted in this forum.
I think in a week or so I will start a thread on this topic and we will find a solution to make the voting more objective. _________________ New here? Welcome to our community! |

I also just joined and entered a few contests, but was a bit disappointed with the results. I had very few views to my photos, and no comments at all, and noticed this to be the same case with many other people's photos as well. With no critique at all, it is frustrating and difficult to tell why one photo receives less votes than another one which may seem compositionally inferior.
From some of the comments, it seems that there are people here who know each other in real life, and if they are the people doing the voting, that puts them at an unequal advantage, since there are so few voters at this time.
I was part of a similar site a few years ago with a voting system much the same, and found that the same people ended up winning every time; it became more of a popularity contest than a contest designed to help people improve their photography skills. I sincerely hope that this is not the case here. |

WNK - believe me this site is getting better all the time. Since I joined they have made many changes, some of which I suggested. The people running this site do listen to the members and make changes as needed.
You made a very good comment on one of my shots about it remaining anonymous which I will bring up with them. Originally, the photog's name appeared in all contests. I was the one who suggested that they be anonymous, which they did. But if one responds to a comment then your name appears. If they can change that so it only show as "photog" it would truly remain anonymous.
Hang in there WNK - things are constantly changing for the better and the administrators do listen, so if you have a suggestion on improving the site by all means please let them know.

Thanks, chieflong... I am really glad to hear about such positive things occurring here. It looks like a great site, but after having such a negative experience on that other site, I'm a bit wary of photog sites in which I see similarities.
I look forward to checking this place out a bit more; I really hope it can be a positive experience! |

I noticed this topic on another thread, and was wondering myself if it would be possible to restrict photos that have made it in the top three, or maybe even just winners, from re-entering the contest.
This way if someone has a really good shot, they won't just keep winning everything. |

Yes, we are going to add this restriction to the rules within a few weeks. We also will place an 'alert button' next to each image so that the contest members could notify us of any contest rules violations: re-entered images, rude comments, etc. _________________ New here?
