A leaf from a tree across the lane, with the tree itself used as the background.

How is this effect achieved - the tree itself used as the background?

Hello strobe,

Yes, the tree is used as the background. I held the leaf up in front of the camera and used macro focus with a shallow depth of field (F3.6). To learn more about depth of field, please take a look at the article that I posted in the "Professional Secrets" forum: http://www.shotaddict.com/forum/ftopic522.php

Thanks, Jeff for this tutorial. I have only one question. Is it possible to take nice macro photos with good DOF with a point-and-shot camera?

Hi sugie,

It is possible with most point and shoot digital cameras. What type of camera are you using?

Nice composition, nice colors, a very nice photo. To answer sugie, it is possible to get nice macro shots with some point and shoots but its been my experience that depth of field is very limited with them, I've been told it has something to do with the sensor size and how close it is to the lens.

To our new friends posting in the forums.. Some of the posts you are currently replying to are over a year old... Most from 2006.

Unless these folks are posting under different names I haven't seen any activity from any of them in the last 6 months. Even our moderator Jeffg seems to have mysteriously dissappeared.
