i am very new at getting into the photography game ... i have been taking pictures for years but only recently discovered that im not that bad at it ... i have been working w/my photo program (GIMP) for awhile and still cant figure something out ... for the life of me i cannot figure out how to make some of my pics b&w and just a select item colorized ... i love this effect and would love to learn it

Hi! I also like such an effect. But I work in Photoshop. First I select the object I want to leave in color, then inverse the selection, so as to select the area I want to be in b/w, and then apply b/w. may be you can also do it in GIMP.
