I'm sorry if this turns into a rant. I guess i am a little annoyed with the fact that people are putting pictures in contests that dont fit the criteria.. As of right now in the "WOMAN" contest, there is a picture of a 2yr old little boy!!.. Does that fit the contest... have ta say a big fat NO!!!.. I know why people do it.. Its to get your stats up... But its not fair to the people that have entered the correct kinda picture into the contest.. The way people vote on the contests here seems to be purely on whats cute and all that.. Not so much on the technical aspect of photography... Therefore the pic of the little boy could very well end up placing above a picture that actually fits the contest... I dont mean to pick on the picture of the little boy... Its just an example.. For the most part every contest has pictures that DO NOT FIT... If ya wanna enter a picture but it dosent fit a contest.. Start a new contest.. there are never enough... Or simply wait until a contest comes up that your picture fits into!!!.. a stat is nothing but a number.... Maybe this site should just get rid of the stat list on the side of the home page.. I do like knowing how many contests i've entered.. And i know that the number of contests that it says i have is actually not even correct.. Ive entered more contests then what it says but have deleted pictures from my albums which takes down your stats!!!
Once again sorry for ranting... And i'm really not tryin to pick on that particular picture!

I share this point - the question is how to solve this problem. We have introduced 'ALERTS' feature that is not so popular as we expected. This might help the contest admin to better control the contests.
Any other ideas are more than welcome. _________________ New here? Welcome to our community! |

I'm new here so actually, I didn't know exactly what the ALERT feature was for other than maybe objectionable photos.
However, in this case, this contest hasn't even gone to the voting stage yet, so unless we clicked on the newly uploaded shot to get a better look, we wouldn't know it was submitted in a contest that really wasn't a good fit. And it sure doesn't seem to fit . . . .

I guess my suggestion is to get rid of the stat list of photgraphers on the home page.. Everyone wants to see there name "up in lights"... So maybe if that list is'nt on the home page people wont feel the need to try and catch up to photographers that have been on this site longer. Dont get rid of the stats all together.. Just leave that for the photographer to see.. this could also help with making contests a little more anonymous before voting time.....
I did send an alert for the picture of the little boy, and hope that by voting time this picture will be removed from the woman catagory, with some kinda of explination to the author as to why the picture was removed.... i understand that shotaddict has many many new memebrs, and this site may be a little confusing. But usually a title of a contest says it all.. And if not for the most part there is a discription of what the title means.. So the "im a newbie and didnt know", kinda dosent fly with me!.. I know that this site is full of intellegent people..... You wouldnt be here if you were'nt...

I could be one who "broke the rules" if you want to say that... I took an indoor lights photo instead of outdoor... however the other category had closed already. I did not do it for any kind of "stats" and really am not sure why someone would feel the need to do that. I wanted to enter more in the hopes for feedback. Now I realize I should have put it in the forum instead.
So, question is, how to delete one from a contest prior to voting. I have one in woman ( it does fit the category) but I want it out. The site isnt the most user friendly as far as this goes. Perhaps the user didn't know how to delete once the photo was entered?
Hoping the best of the poster... |

Go to your photo gallery and click on the photo you want to remove. When the photo opens you will find a delete option near the bottom of the photo. Be advised that this will remove the photo from the gallery as well so you will have to re-upload it if you want to use it in another contest.
There may be another method to remove a photo but this is the only way I have found... so far.

After more poking in there I did stumble upon it and got the photo I wanted out of the contest pulled. Thanks.
Perhaps more people should know there is feedback provided for photos in the forums and not only the contests. I know through my first trial and error. I do like the site though :) |
