| HI JEFFG. I did not know You had such a nice website. I visited it and I spotted minimum 2 great macro shots. One is of the inside of a flower, and the second is of a leaf from very close. I think YOu should have placed and submitted those images to this contest. They are great. Regards |

| HI EVERYBODY! A LITTLE FUN FOR YOU!!! LET US TAKE A MACRO SHOT! Take Your camera, and a small object, like sweetie, and set these up. For best results, choose a natural window light (the best of best tip of even the greatest pros, if You cannot afford a lighting kit or for different results) - the best would be north facing window, so there is no direct sunlight coming in and onto our sweetie. You will nedd to install camera on a tripod (or at least a stable and horizontal object if You do not have a tripod - oops...), so it may be more convenient for You to set the exposure before. Set the exposure, REMEMBERING that firstly to set the aperture (f stop) to the highest NUMBER like 22 or 16 or 11 or any between. Or use Your highest possible number (I know in many point and shoots there are max. of 5.6-8). AFTER that choose the appropriate shutter speed. IF YOU CANNOT do any of the things above (Your camera does not allow, as it shoots fully automatic or You do not know how), choose any of these 2 automatic programs: MACRO (best if You have one), or SCENIC (LANDSCAPE etc). In both the camera should set the highest f-number. I suppose You will be using tripod or something else, so turn off Your anti-shake reduction (image stabilization). OF COURSE USE ONLY MACRO LENS OR MACRO PROGRAM (YOU'D BETTER GO OUT AND BUY ANY OF THE MACRO FILTER, EXTENSION TUBE OR OTHER ACCESSORIES SO YOU CAN GET AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE IF YOUR CAMERA SUPPORTS ONLY THE SO CALLED 1:4 OR 1:3 MACRO MAGNIFICATIONS. TRY TO GET AS CLOSE TO 1:1 AS POSSIBLE TO SHOOT "MACRO"). So, mount the camera on a tripiod, use the settings for exposure, get AS close AS possible to the object, until it gets out of focus (BY THE WAY - USE MANUAL FOCUSING, IT IS EASIER TO GET THE POINT AND TO STAY SURE THE FOCAL POINT WILL NOT CHANGE WHEN WE PRESS THE SHUTTER RELEASE AGAIN), because it is too close (YOU SHOULD have as largest object in Your viewvinder or on Your LCD as possible!). PREPARE EVERYTHING, and press the shutter release (another IMPORTANT THING: use cable release if You can, or press the shutter release very VERY gently and slowly but without hesitation... so the image does not get blurry. That is why we need a tripod for macro shot as well. Objects shot very close and more, with slower shutter speed, can get blury because Yu may shake the camera, the object may move, and the smallest changes in camera move can ruin the shot instantly, and many more...). RESULTS::::: Yu should choose an object which dimensions are similar to dimensions of Your camera sensor (please read Your manual) - about 0,5-1,5 inches, and this object should cover full of Your final image (remember to place objects horizontally if You shoot this way so you can fill Your view area as much as possible to get the highest magnification, of course if You chose a rectangular shape object). NOW YOU KNOW AND SEE WHAT IT IS, especially if You managed to shoot 1:1. Now You can print or display this image even on Your biggest wall in Your home, and ask a question like "lisu" asked: Have You ever seen a sweetie (our example) of this size?! BIGGER than me?! BIGGER than my room windows?! If he/she shows me an original image (full size as shot), and his/her bee is covering the whole area (or almost), I can say it is macro. YOU WILL SEE AS WELL, just after You shoot this macro image. HAPPY SHOOTING, AND MY FINAL APOLOGIES TO ALL OF YOU!!! zyaresku |
